Personal Attributes


Within this blog I will be telling you the various attributes we employers require you to have in order to be able to get a job within the IT industry as well as at IT Direct. Employees must carry many skills & attributes when working, especially within the IT industry due to it not only being an extremely tough working environment, but also a very technical one.

Industry Specific Attributes 

One of the main industry specific attributes we require at IT Direct is technical knowledge. The reason we highly recommend you carrying this particular attribute is due to the fact that we at IT direct strongly believe that those with background experience & knowledge about the modern technology will always work better in this industry. If you carry the technical knowledge already it will be extremely easy for us to set you a task on any type of electronic & let you get on with the task right away. Knowing all the equipment & technical things you are going to work with beforehand will make both your own & our life easier hence no hard-core training will need to be involved, whereas if you didn't have any type of technical knowledge a large amount of time will be lost teaching you the knowledge. Therefore this is one of the most important attributes we ask for in an employee.


Technical Knowledge is gained through obtaining qualifications. When giving an example of technical knowledge & where it comes from you can refer to a Teacher. Each teacher will have the technical knowledge which links to their specific subject field. An engineering teacher most likely has a got a University degree / qualification in engineering.



Working procedures – This also consists of both health & safety as well as security issues. When talking about working procedures you need to consider the fact that you don’t want to be counterproductive. For example, if you are feeling quite ill, a good working procedure would be to stay at home in order to prevent both passing on the flu to colleges as well as not working to the best of your ability / not completing given tasks. A good working procedure is extremely important to any type of firm in order to allow it to run smoothly & productively.

The next one is health & safety. This is taking good care of yourself in terms of enabling the staff around you to be safe& sound at all times. Health & safety within the business requires you to tell your manager / employer any risky situations that may come your way in order to help prevent any unnecessary hazards within the firm. This could be either if you get hurt whilst working, coincidentally come across something which may be harmful/dangerous as well as if you obtain a disease which may be work related. This is one of the most important things within any firm as within any health& safety rules, the firm will be at serious risks
General Attitude’s 

one general attitude that we require all employees to have is for them to be determined! This is what makes employee stand out from the group. Employers love to see this in all their employees due to the fact that it shows how hard working they are. It also reveals the passion they have for the company e.g. if the manager was to set an employee a big task, a determined employee will drive them-self & make sure they put 110% at all times in order to complete the task within the specific deadline. This also shows that the employee is ready to learn new things and work at the best of their ability, hence determination is a key attribute which is required for many jobs not only within the IT industry.

Another general attribute employers love to look out for is the individual being very independent. The reasons employers value this attribute a lot is due to the fact that it allows us to be able to give the employee individual tasks & not worry about it not meeting the deadline. If an employee is independent then they won’t always rely on working on tasks in a group/with other colleagues. They are able to get on well by themselves & still work to the best of their ability.
Employers love to see employees who carry more than just two general attributes. Therefore I am going to tell you about one more attitude which employers value a lot. This is one being tolerant. When employers set group tasks they expect employees to work together in a great working environment and expect the task to be done to the best of all their abilities, hence if employees are tolerant then they will be willing to take on other colleagues opinions. 

This is extremely important when doing group tasks as it will enable them to listen to each other’s ideas & come up with the best way to complete the specific task. Furthermore an employee that is tolerant shows the willingness to allow the existence of opinions that one does not agree with meaning even if one employee doesn't actually agree with another, they will not begin to argue in a childish manor, but they will take it as a colleague’s opinion & go with the flow like a mature adult would do. That is why employers love to see tolerance within the workers as they believe it improves the working environment as a whole.

Skills based attributes

one very important skill which employers love to see in all employees is good time management. Employers expect all the workers to be on time& ready to begin their work in the business/firm every day. This is due to the fact that we believe all good employees who will put in hard work during working hours are meant to come early for work. A late employee is what we would never won’t to see as it only makes you look silly. Being late will make the employer think that you are not good with organizing your time and you don't take your work seriously, which means they won’t want you to work for the firm. Therefore time management is highly required in job roles, especially at IT Direct.

Another skill based attribute that employers tend to value is self-motivation. Employers love to see a self-motivated worker due to the fact that this means even if the employee is finding the task given quite hard, the employee will be very eager to work hard & complete the task within the specific deadline day no matter how difficult they were finding it. Therefore this eases the workload on the actual employer as they won’t have to keep giving the worker a helping hand each time they make a mistake as if they were self-motivated they will pick themselves up & carry on doing the task. Due to this employers look for this attribute when they are recruiting new members to join the firm. 
One last thing most employers at IT Direct should have is good ‘team working ‘attributes. The reason we would really love to see this attribute within an employee is due to the fact that most people in the workforce have to work as part of a team in order to complete the job successfully. All teams within the firm tend to have one leader with the others in the team who play different roles to one another. Therefore it is more than important that every individual works well together. If an employee is a great team worker it is easy for them to have a good flow of communication with the colleagues in order to help avoid any unwanted situations.
